  • Winter Trip 2025

    Winter Trip 2025

Staying at a large property near Fort William gave us plenty of options on the latest MMC winter trip, and with 8 people making the long journey we enjoyed a variety of different activities. The first four days treated us to good weather and conditions on Creag Meagaidh, and club members tackled Raeburn’s Gully, Cinderella,

    Christmas Trip 2024

Not for the first time, we stayed at Idwal Cottage Youth Hostel for the 2024 version of the MMC Christmas Trip. And not for the first time, the weather wasn’t perfect for spending time in the mountains. Storm Darragh kept us indoors till lunchtime on the Saturday, after which most of the 15 of us

  • The Alps 2024

    The Alps 2024

The training and acclimatisation phase of the MMC introduction to alpine mountaineering trip allowed us to practise moving together over a variety of terrain and consolidated ice axe and crampon techniques. We also practised crevasse rescue, spending as much time at altitude as the weather would allow before resting ahead of our alpine peak attempt.

  • Stanage Edge

    Stanage Edge

The sun shone and we missed the rain on our recent trip to Stanage. Lots of climbing was done, and some mountain biking too. We enjoyed staying at Pindale Farm Outdoor Centre campsite and had a great meal at Bulls Head in Castleton on Saturday.

  • Snakes and Ladders

    Snakes and Ladders

This weekend was billed as an ‘intro to multi-pitch climbing’, but all the attendees actually knew how to multi-pitch climb already. The weather in North Wales was looking less than ideal for climbing so… we took the opportunity to have a go at ‘snakes and ladders’ in Llanberis. It was on the ‘to do’ list

This trip was put on to introduce people to outdoor climbing and the venue for Saturday was Borrowdale. After recent pretty miserable weather we were lucky to have a glorious day in the sunshine, and even the ground was far drier than expected. Excellent tutelage from the more experienced members of the group made for

    Winter Trip 2024

Three of the club spent a week in the Cairgorms staying in a lovely place in Aviemore, and playing in the little snow there was. The weather at the beginning of the week was rather mild, with the top of the plateau being snow and ice free, however we managed to find some snow in

    Christmas Trip 2023

The 2023 Christmas trip saw us return to the Snowdonia Mountain Hostel in Nant Ffrancon with record numbers! Typical December weather (i.e. quite a lot of rain) led to some careful choices of timing and activities, with no less than four different options on Saturday. Those who were most prepared to battle the elements walked

Something a bit different … MMC members went away for a long weekend in the sunshine and found some cliffs to climb.

  • Ennerdale

    Ennerdale

The club welcomed some new members along for this trip – staying at Ennerdale Youth Hostel. Perhaps the quietest area of the Lake District, it certainly felt like the wettest and windiest over this long weekend. It could not have rained any harder while we were scrambling up Haystacks. A lovely place to stay –
