Not for the first time, we stayed at Idwal Cottage Youth Hostel for the 2024 version of the MMC Christmas Trip. And not for the first time, the weather wasn’t perfect for spending time in the mountains. Storm Darragh kept us indoors till lunchtime on the Saturday, after which most of the 15 of us were able to set out around Cwm Idwal for a short walk. This did leave plenty of time to prepare the traditional Christmas evening meal, which was – of course – excellent. By Sunday morning, the floods had receded and enough fallen trees had been removed for some of us to be (just) able to access Llyn Crafnant for a very windy walk over Creigiau Gleision and Crimpau.
