Rhinogydd

The aim was simple. Most of us had never been to this bit of North Wales before, so we wanted to see it all in a single weekend. Day 1 was a beautiful sunny day and we headed for the northern end of the range. Very rough walking through the glaciated landscape took us to Moel Ysgyfarnogod and Foel Penolau. The descent off Clip on the return was treacherous. There was a lot of cloud around on Day 2. These are supposedly the toughest mountains in Wales and our lengthy route took us over the summits of Rhinog Fawr, Rhinog Fach, Y Llethr and Diffwys. We were aided by the route-finding knowledge of one member who had recently completed the Dragon’s Back ultra-running race.
